From 1 April 2026 onwards, the LPA form 1 will be free for Singaporeans. Anyone that’s 21 years of age, and would like to do their LPA form 1, they can now do so for free.
However, most people don’t know how to go about it. Actually, it is quite easy.
All you really need is readiness. One, two or three donees. SingPass for login. And your donees must also have their SingPass for login. Then you are ready to do your LPA form 1.
LPA refer to Lasting Power of Attorney aka a legal document that enables your loved ones to decide for your welfare should you lose mental capacity for whatever reason.
Step 1: login via SingPass on the Office of Public Guardian web portal. https://opg-eservice.msf.gov.sg. Apply LPA.
Step 2: nominate 1, 2 or 3 donees, joint or severally where the 3rd donee is a replacement for when 1st or 2nd donee is unavailable to decide on your welfare.
Step 3: donee login to opg web portal with SingPass and acknowledged acceptance of your nomination.
Step 4: once you are ready to complete your LPA, you can visit any certificate issuer nearby where you are to have your LPA certified.
Certificate issuers come in two kinds, either legal practitioners or doctors who have undergone the CI training.
For those that are unsure if they need to do one, they should google “why do I need to do an LPA?”
