fried kway teow

Zion Road Fried Kway Teow

April 16, 2016 by Ho Lang

I remember queuing up for it once, back in the day when we still had A&W restaurants in Singapore. I decided in haste that I didn’t want to wait so long for something that tastes like any other fried kway teow.

Fast forward many years later and I decided that I would try to queue for it. I noticed that not much had changed or at least as I remember it then. The uncle that did all the frying was still doing the same old thing. Maybe he looks older a d more worn down. But otherwise it looks like he really enjoys whatever it was that he was doing. I wonder if he gets any job satisfaction out of what he does day in day out.

I didn’t dare ask him.

So the verdict was, it is a very skillfully fried plate of kway teow. I wouldn’t have queued for it had it not been for the shortened queue. It wasn’t all that fantastic. Just so so. Perhaps I have been eating from too many stalls and that might have had an impact on my discerning tastebuds.

But if you are there by chance and you really have a craving for fried kway teow. Then my recommendation is to try it. Brave the heat and the ridiculous queue. You will be rewarded with a very nice fried kway teow. But if you live in Jurong or Woodlands or Pasir Ris for that matter, it might not warrant the long journey for it.
